My Shopping List

I'm starting to see columns on what to buy for the holidays, and, being an individual of opinion, I feel a need to weigh in on this one.

Let me start with what NOT to buy. Please, if you do nothing else, stay away from those giant, illuminated inflatable outdoor decorations. Could anything be more environmentally irresponsible? Not only are they made from plastics (oil!), but they consume lots of electricity just to be there - not just a light, but a fan as well. As for the aesthetics, I just don't get it. Why would anyone want to make their home look like a McDonald's? While we're at it, how about a little restraint with the lighting? Now that you can buy latticeworks of lights, you can light up your whole neighborhood like an airport in just minutes. Another environmental disaster! This is what keeps our gas prices up, folks. When it comes to decorations, indoor and out, try a new thought: think passive.
