…in which the phrase “gender identity” was (smartly?) removed.  See the original (my highlighting):

Obama’s inclusion of gender identity in his public remarks is a landmark change in our country’s regard for transgender people.   Let’s hope that the folks responsible for this omission fix it soon, please!

Trans students can now claim the power of government support for their right to be accorded respect for their gender identity and to be treated accordingly.  Here’s the relevant passage from the Department of Education guidelines:

This means that trans students should be allowed to participate in sex-segregated classes, activities, and facilities according to their gender identity.   Period.
