" Don't you think that given the recent move to the right in the US, that it is time for GLBT people to give up and leave the country before we are not allowed to leave? All the laws and ordinances protecting GLBT peoples are a joke. The right wing judges that will soon be appointed will strike such laws and ordinances down for at least 20 years or more. Given right wing hate, we can easily be made illegal. Some may call me radical or paranoid, but having German relatives, I was told of Germans who told their Jewish friends in all sincerity and good faith, "Don't worry, it could never happen here, you will be safe." Who remembers the million gays that died in Hitler's death camps? Maybe only GLBT's, certainly not most other Americans. "

The poetry editor for Transgender Tapestry magazine is also a bad girl drag king free radical poet, writer, artist and gender activist. Meet Kari Edwards, award-winning writer and respected artist.
Kari is winner of New Langton Arts' Bay Area Award in Literature (2002), author of "A Day in the Life of P." to be released by Subpress Collective (2002), "a diary of lies," Belladonna Books (2002), "Electric Spandex: Anthology of Writing the Queer Text," Pyriform Press (2002), and "post/(pink)" Scarlet Press (2001). Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, including the Denver Art Museum, New Orleans Contemporary Art Museum, University of California at San Diego, and University of Massachusetts Amherst. Edwards' work can also be found in Blood and Tears (2000), an anthology on Matthew Shepard (Painted Leaf Press), Bombay Gin, Aufgabe, In Posse, Mirage, and The International Journal of Sexuality and Gender Studies.

A recent study on Transgender awareness among Americans revealed some unexpected results. Our guest, Alejandro Marcel, a national transgender health care consultant working on federal and state trans health policies, helped guide the study, and reports on some of its findings.
Alejandro has been consulting with state and federal health agencies on trans health issues for the last 10 years. He was the founding director of Transhealth and Education Network in 1996. He is currently consulting with the surgeon general's office on HIV/AIDS policy.
