" I am in the process of coming out at work. Together with my boss I have compiled a list of people who should know about my MTF transsexuality and by now I have told almost all the 60 people on the list. Everything seems to go quite smoothly. However I am getting a little worried because in your recent programs I heard of several cases that started 'smoothly', but turned nasty within a year! I am following your advice to 'take small steps' and see how they work and I am now trying to come out to my colleagues in a similar way. That makes me look very gender ambiguous at work at the moment. And sometimes I do worry about that. It makes me feel good, but what effects will it have on my career? "

Progress in gaining acceptance, rights, and appropriate services often depends on scientific research to demonstrate the need for reparative change. A doctoral candidate in psychology at the University of Vermont, Rhonda Factor is currently undertaking a groundbreaking study of people who don't identify as either male or female.
In addition to working on her dissertation, Rhonda practices psychotherapy and facilitates anti-homophobia/anti-heterosexism workshops for schools and non-profit organizations.
