Jean Kilbourne (www.jeankilbourne.com), "is internationally recognized for her pioneering work on alcohol and tobacco advertising and the image of women in advertising. A widely published writer and speaker who has twice been named Lecturer of the Year by the National Association of Campus Activities, she is best known for her award-winning documentaries Killing Us Softly, Slim Hopes, and Pack of Lies" (text from her website).
We discuss her new book, "Deadly Persuasion: Why Women and Girls Must Fight the Addictive Power of Advertising" (website www.deadlypersuasion.com), as well as media and advertising representations of women in general, and the damage done by such depictions.
Jean Kilbourne's videos are available for public screening from the Media Education Foundation at www.mediaed.org.
