It's no secret that language has great influence over our daily experience of life. Our guest is Peter F. Murphy, the author of a fascinating book titled "Studs, Tools, and the Family Jewels: Metaphors Men Live By" which takes a close look at the language commonly used by and about men, and the effect such language has on our gendered thinking.
Peter F. Murphy is a Professor and Chair of the Department of English and Philosophy at Murray State University in Murray, KY. In addition to this book on metaphors of masculinity, he has edited a collection of essays called "Fictions of Masculinity: Crossing Cultures, Crossing Sexualities," published by New York University Press in 1994.
