Anne Fausto-Sterling, biologist, feminist, historian of science, and Professor of Biology and Women's Studies at Brown University. Her pioneering essay, "The Five Sexes," received an honorable mention in "The Best American Essays of 1994." An outspoken advocate for reform in the treatment of intersexuality, she is the author of "Myths of Gender: Biological Theories About Women and Men" and her new work, "Sexing the Body: Gender Politics and the Construction of Sexuality". We talk with Anne about:
· how scientists historically look at sex and sex differences and how they bring cultual assumptions into their work · theories of brain development around sex and gender differences and how those differences were used to hypothesize about racial and gender differences · stereotypes about hormones |
