Question of the week
Question: "Why has the "transgender" movement taken the word Gender as a social issue, when half of Gender is the physical aspect-- The Body. Because of endocrine health problems many people are "straight" gender socially, but are variant gender physical. I do not think your show as really addressed this. My connection with this is a severe lifelong case of gynecomastia with none fatty material. Also there are quite a number of men with my condition who are Gay, Bi, or crossdressers. " (from: William)

Alix Olson, feminist lesbian performance poet. According to her bio, "Alix Olson is a dynamic performer, prominent in the New York City and National Spoken Word scenes. She is a member of the 1998 Nuyorican National Championship Poetry Slam Team and the 1999 OutWrite National Poetry Slam Champion. " This, and much more: she is acclaimed by feminist and queer actisists alike for her incisive, political work. We talked with Alix about poetry and slams and gender, and she performed two gender-oriented poems for us:

Samuel Delaney, author of "Dhalgren", an apocalyptic tale which received rave reviews on its release in 1975, which went on to become one of the bestselling science fiction novels of all time, and which is being reissued today. He has received two Hugo and four Nebula awards for his Science Fiction writing, which presents groundbreakingly diverse gender, sexual and racial imagery. Delaney is well known as the first 'out' gay African American science fiction writer, and we spoke with him about diversity themes in his work and in the world of science fiction. Delaney currently teaches creative writing at Temple University.
